Makeup Air Unit Cleaning
Cleaning of makeup air units – the equipment that replaces air exhausted from commercial kitchens, industrial spaces and large buildings – across the Greater Toronto Area.
Why Makeup Air Units Need Cleaning
Whenever a kitchen hood, process exhaust or washroom exhaust fan pulls air out of a building, a makeup air unit brings outdoor air back in and tempers it. When the unit’s intake, filters or blower are clogged, it cannot keep up: the building goes into negative pressure, doors become hard to open, exhaust hoods lose capture, and unfiltered air is pulled in wherever it can find a gap. Because makeup air units draw straight from outdoors, they also collect leaves and debris at the intake. Sites that rely on them usually schedule this alongside their duct cleaning.

Common Questions
Do you service the burner section?
No. Gas-fired makeup air units need a TSSA-licensed gas technician for burner and combustion work. We clean the air side of the unit and report anything on the gas side that needs attention.
How does this relate to our exhaust system?
They are two halves of the same airflow. The exhaust removes air and the makeup air unit replaces it. If the makeup side is restricted, the exhaust cannot perform properly however clean it is.
How often should it be cleaned?
It depends on the site. Units serving commercial kitchens or dusty processes need more frequent attention than those on office buildings. An inspection sets the right interval for yours.
Can you work on the roof?
Yes. Roof access is coordinated with building management ahead of the visit.
